Epithelioid cell

A specialized form of mononuclear phagocyte that is derived from macrophages. It is the cell type that is uniquely found in granulomatous inflammation. The name derives from the fact that macrophages are converted into cells that have an epithelial-like appearance, i.e., have abundant, pale cytoplasm.
