Falciparum Malaria, peripheral smear The banana-shaped gamete of Falciparum malaria is the most easily recognized of all the species, so it tends to show up on tests quite often. Falciparum malaria is the only emergency in parasitology, and the lab should be capable of doing a malaria blood film 24 hours per day. Treatment should be begun immediately, to avoid cerebral malaria, which can be fatal.
