The reduviid bug lives in the thatch roof of rural dwellings. At night, it bites the victim, usually on the face. Immediately after biting, it defecates, and the victim then scratches the feces into the bite. Prevention involves simply replacing the roof with a tin one, and plastering the walls to remove the crevices that the bugs live in.
