The thrombus is white, and adherent to the ventricular wall. Usually mural thrombi form following myocardial infarct, because the ventricular wall becomes akinetic (motionless), allowing thrombus formation. Portions of the thrombus may break off (embolize), creating infarcts wherever they end up.
