Gross photograph of a mitral valve at autopsy from a patient with rheumatic heart disease. The leaflets are distorted show the classic "fish mouth" deformity (page 300). This has resulted in mitral stenosis, which causes increased pressure in the left ventricle, and resultant hyperplasia and dilation.
