The fibrotic areas appear gray or white, and correspond to areas of the central vein. This fibrosis thus occurs in the same area where hepatocytes became necrotic from prolonged congestive heart failure. Although central areas may become fibrotic in alcoholic liver disease, the fibrosis in alcoholic cirrhosis usually runs from portal triad to portal triad.
