Cerebellum, following cardiac arrest of eight minutes duration, with "successful" resuscitation. The patient died 48 hours later. The large cerebellar Purkinje cells are turned into "red neurons" (anoxic necrosis), while the small, dark blue granular neurons survived. Some Purkinje cells are already surrounded by phagocytic rod-shaped microglia. (H&E)
