Matrix vesicle, Phase 2 of calcification. Once formed by vesicles, the calcium phosphate crystals of hydroxyapatite are insoluble, and serve as templates for self-propagating crystal proliferation spreading through most of the extracellular matrix and involving collagen fibrils.
