Diagram depicts metabolic relationships between Ca, vitamin D metabolites, the kidneys and the parathyroids. A failure of calcium absorption at the gut, due to impaired formation of 1,25-OH2 Vitamin D3 by the kidney, leads to chronic persistent hypocalcemia, a stimulus of PTH synthesis and secretion.
