The RBCs are large in size, diameter >9 micrometers and MCV >100. (Compare the size of the RBCs with the lymphocyte). Macrocytes are seen in megaloblastic anemia, where there is a disturbance on DNA synthesis, which is classically associated with foate or viamin B12 deficiency.
