This slide is a gross photograph of a segment of small intestine afflicted with fibrosing enteritis. A "napkin ring", i.e., circumferential, scar formed that, as it contracted, blocked the flow of ingesta (loss of function). Note that the bowel to the right -- the upstream side -- of the constriction is dilated, compared to that which is on the left
