| This baby demonstrates the typical features of Down syndrome with downslanting palbebral fissures and a slightly protruding tongue. Children with Down syndrome are placid, happy, loving children (and how often does that describe supposedly "normal" persons). However, they tend to have additional internal anomalies, particularly congenital heart disease. If they live into adolescence or young adulthood, they may develop leukemia. If they live to age 30 or 40 they will develop Alzheimer's disease. |
